Entropy

Picture
This was a canvas I completed amidst all the excitement and tension of the impending Y2K. I was trying to create a commentary of the relationship between the manmade modern world and the envirnoments of the natural world. The structured grid is superimposed over the organic palette knife painting in the background to suggest man trying to apply order and dominance over the natural world. Near the top is a fractured circle, the circle of life; and inside the circle it is black and dead. This was an interesting challenge for me in that I was trying to suggest an idea while still painting nonobjectively. My inspiration was the idea of Entropy: The inevitable and steady deterioration of a system or society.
