This is a small 5" wood block painting that was done as a part of an art auction fundraiser at the high school where I teach, as was The Most High (Psalm 47:2). We had a visiting artist who gave us all the challenge of incorporating a heart into our compositions, in keeping with a series of paintings she had been exploring for several years. This is also my first time using modeling paste in a painting, something else our visiting artist demonstrated. This is a medium with which I became immediately fascinated, particularily because of the textural possiblities it offers. It is certainly a material I plan on including in many of my future paintings. The composition here is fairly straightforward in terms of the symbolism from my Joyflow series. I did use the purple Holy Spirit line create a subtle heart near the bottom. And when thinking about God and His great love for us, I immediately thought of the poetic verse 1 John 3:1, " How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!"
